The list of the most influential 500 Muslims has been announced. 4 Turks are listed in the top 50, and Fethullah Gülen, the Honorary President of the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF), is among the first fifty people in the list.
The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, headquartered in Amman, the capital of Jordan, has published the 2011 version of the list of “The Most Influential 500 Muslims in the World”. In the list, which has been regularly published since 2009, lots of Turks from among politicians, academicians, business men or women and religious scholars are included. Four Turks’ names are listed in the top 50: The Prime Minister Erdoğan, Fethullah Gülen, The President Abdullah Gül and Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the Secretary General of Islamic Cooperation Organization.
Besides these four names, 14 another Turks from various categories have been included in the list. While the top 50 has been listed in order, the remaining 450 names have been categorized according to the fields of their influence. The Turks who have been included in the list of “The Most Influential 500 Muslims in the World” are: Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çağrıcı, Dr. İbrahim Kalın and Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Karaman in the category of academicians; Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoğlu in the category of politicians; the former president of the Administration of Religious Affairs Ali Bardakoğlu in the category of religious affairs; Hayrünnisa Gül, the wife of the President Abdullah Gül, Merve Kavakçı, the former deputy of Fazilet Partisi, and Mahinur Özdemir, the deputy of Beligum, in the category of social issues; Güler Sabancı, the Chairwoman of the Executive Board of Sabancı Group, in the category of business; Adnan Oktar in the category of science and technology; the calligrapher Hasan Çelebi and the fashion designer Rabia Yalçın in the category of culture and art; Hafızlar Mustafa Özcan Güneşdoğdu in the category of hafızs; Ekrem Dumanlı, the chief editor of Zaman newspaper in the category of media. The biography of Necmettin Erbakan has also been published in the report in the category of deceased Muslims.
